STI/STD Information
An STI (sexually transmitted infection) and an STD (sexually transmitted disease) can result from having unprotected sex, and are becoming more and more common, largely due to the fact that many people lack the knowledge about how they are transmitted. STIs and STDs are infections that are passed from one person to another through all forms of sexual contact: oral, vaginal and anal. The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites, yeast, and viruses. According TO THE CDC there are more than 20 types of STIs/STDs that can affect both men and women.
It is important to be aware of these infections and diseases so that they may be avoided, and if contracted that they may be treated properly. In regard to pregnancy, if a pregnant woman has an untreated STI or an STD, it can cause health risks for her and her baby. Learn more about the distinct STIs and STDs and their symptoms here.
